I will shock Mahama

A young businessman who wants to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said he will spring a surprise at the polls.

Ernest Kwaku Kobeah said he has few tricks up his sleeve to change the fortunes of the opposition party ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The British businessman picked up his forms in Accra on 22 February.

This was after Professor Joshua Alabi, the NDC 2020 Campaign Manager, led a group of NDC Regional Chairmen to collect the forms for former President John Mahama.

Although the former president is the most likely to win, he is being challenged by about three people, including Dr Kwabena Duffuor, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana.

Some NDC members have called on these other aspirants to give up and support Mr Mahama so that he can win big in 2024.

But in an interview on Adom FM's morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Mr Kobeah said the reason he is contesting is to strengthen the democratic process in the NDC.

He believes that if the party tries to stop people from voting against Mr Mahama, it would be against their basic human rights.

"We were all born in the same nine-month period, so no one is better. I'm glad the NDC is letting us run against Mahama," the presidential hopeful said.

He said what sets him apart from the other candidates is that he is young, energetic and has experience in domestic politics and development.

Mr Kobeah told NDC delegates not to join the crowd and jeopardise the future of the party.
