I won’t be cooking and washing anybody’s cloth - Lady informs future husband

Sun, 2 Apr 2023 Source: Club Mate

Marriage is a lifelong commitment between two lovers, and it is important that both partners have a mutual understanding of their expectations and roles. After all, it takes two to tango. Recently, a young Ghanaian woman went viral after boldly informing her potential future husband that she will not be cooking and washing his clothes when they get married.

The woman, whose name has not been made public, left many Ghanaians applauding her boldness and confidence as she took a stand against the traditional belief that the woman’s role in marriage is to take care of the home and its occupants. Many argued that she was simply defining her own boundaries and taking ownership of her role in any future marriage.

The woman’s stand brings to light the issue of gender roles in marriage. For years, the traditional view of marriage has been that the man is the breadwinner and the woman is the homemaker. This archaic belief is deeply embedded in our culture, and often times it is taken as a given that a woman should be the one to take care of all the household needs.

Fortunately, times are changing and more and more couples are rethinking traditional gender roles. Women are being empowered to take charge of their own lives and decide on the roles they are comfortable with in a marriage. Perhaps this is the first step to freeing our society from outdated gender stereotypes and helping couples create healthy and equal relationships.

The young Ghanaian woman’s stand is a sign of the times: women are no longer willing to be relegated to the sidelines in a marriage. It was a bold move, but one that many are applauding. It takes courage to go against the status quo and stand up for what you believe in. Hopefully, her example will inspire other women to take charge of their lives and define their own boundaries.
