IGP stayed all night in Ashaiman to arrest suspects - MP

Mon, 13 Mar 2023 Source: Club Mate

Ernest Norgbey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman, has expressed sincere gratitude to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, for his timely action in arresting key suspects in the death of the Ashaiman soldier.

He claims that the police under the IGP's leadership have demonstrated their security superiority by doing what the army failed to do during its brutal invasion of Ashaiman in response to the death of 21-year-old soldier Imoro Sherif, who has since been laid to rest.

The MP claims that the IGP was present to ensure that the suspects were arrested in the night and early hours of Friday, 10 March 2023.

This, according to the MP, showed the IGP's commitment to prosecuting those responsible for the horrific crime as well as the fight against crime in general across the country.

The military high command's crackdown on the people, which resulted in the military arresting 184 people before releasing them, is contradicted by the work of the police to arrest the main suspects in the murder of soldier Sherif Imoro through thorough painstaking investigation and not by brutalizing innocent individuals.

The soldiers beat all sorts of people, especially young people, and forced others to roll around in the mud while they searched for those responsible for killing their colleague.

The MP said that the main suspects were arrested after the police took over, because that is their area of expertise, when he spoke to journalists about the arrest of the suspects.

The MP went on to say that the military is notorious for brutality and shouldn't have been allowed to raid a community of civilians in this way.

However, in response to this latest development, Peace Watch Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) working to reduce crime and promote security in the country, has called on officers of the Ghana Police Service to support the IGP in the effective discharge of his duties.

The CEO of the organisation, Madam Diana Yonkopa Daniels, urged the officers to demonstrate selflessness in supporting the IGP's goal for the nation.

The IGP has already received much praise for the facelift of the Ghana Police.
