In a recent development, a man who had been impersonating a military officer and also posing as an operative of the National Security has been apprehended by the police in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region.
This individual, who goes by the name WOII Samuel Owusu Dartey, had been causing distress to unsuspecting residents by wielding a pistol and handcuffs, sometimes even donning military attire.
The revelation came to light after an encounter with Clifford Pablo Yakah, a private surveyor working in Ntankoful within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis. The imposter had been hired by a family to utilize his supposed authority in order to intimidate the surveyor, who was assisting the head of the family with a land dispute.
Clifford Pablo Yakah narrated the incident, saying, "I am a private surveyor working on some documents for a family. One day, while I was working, the family introduced the suspect to me as a military officer (WOII Samuel Owusu Dartey) who also served in the Intelligence Unit of the National Security. They informed me that he would be assisting me with the land document."
The victim further explained that the imposter began harassing him, demanding that he hand over the land documents or face dire consequences. One morning, the imposter arrived at his residence dressed in military uniform, brandishing a pistol and handcuffs, instructing him to dress up and accompany him. Suspecting something was amiss, Clifford contacted his relative, who serves in the military, for verification.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the suspect was not a genuine military officer. As a result, he is presently under investigation to assist with ongoing inquiries. A search of his person yielded a pistol, military uniform, and a list containing the names of individuals from whom he allegedly extorted money under the pretense of recruiting them into the military.
In light of these developments, authorities are planning to organize an identification parade to allow other victims to identify the imposter. Since his arrest, numerous individuals have come forward with their own harrowing experiences at the hands of the suspect, with new accounts emerging each day.
