A 32-year-old man who sealed his wife's private parts with sand and superglue to make her less human has been given a 50-year prison sentence.
James Kifo Muriuki was found guilty by Chuka Law Courts Principal Magistrate Njoki Kahara of sexually assaulting his wife and causing her serious harm. This happened when he was in court.
On May 16, 2020, Kifo took his wife to the River Kathita and told her to take off her clothes.
He then asked her who she had slept with in Nairobi while he was there.
Police say that the woman hesitated to do what her husband asked, so Kifo started kicking her.
In addition to beating his wife, the man sprayed pepper and salt on her private parts and used a knife to force them inside before sealing the wound with glue.
As if that wasn't bad enough, Kifo sealed the woman's ears and mouth shut with glue before running away and leaving her for dead.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) caught Kifo at his hideout in Kinango, Kitui county, early on Thursday, May 21, 2020.
He was accused of sexually assaulting his wife, but he always said he wasn't guilty.
