Kumawu: Tactical NPP Begins Reconstruction Of Major Roads Before By-Election

The Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region is undergoing major road construction by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government, ahead of the by-election in the area.

The reconstruction of the roads was prompted by some Kumawu youth, following the declaration of a vacant Parliamentary seat by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, after the death of MP Hon Philip Basoah.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon Kwasi Amoako-Atta, visited the constituency to assess the situation and construction began just two days later. Some residents have mixed reactions to the road construction, with some arguing that the government is only doing it to win the seat, while others think it has no merit in the upcoming by-election.

Eight people in the NPP have already picked their nomination forms and are expected to be vetted after the party opened nominations on April 11, 2023. Nominations will be closed on April 14, and the elections are set to take place on April 23, 2023. Hon Philip Basoah passed away on Tuesday, March 28 at the age of 53 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
