On April 22, 2023, news broke that a lawyer from Nigeria, Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak, was arrested along with five others for allegedly killing her husband, Barrister Godwin Ikoiwak, in Akwa Ibom State. The reason for the alleged murder? It is said that her husband discovered that their houseboy, who had been living with them for years, was actually her biological son. The lawyer is now facing trial in the Uyo High Court.

During the court proceedings, a prosecution witness stated that the deceased husband had no idea that the boy living in their home was actually his wife's son because she had told him that the child was her younger brother. Furthermore, the deceased had confided in a friend that he was having issues with his wife over infidelity. He had even reported the matter to his wife's family, who invited him to a meeting in their family compound in Nung Udoe Itak, Ikono LGA. Sadly, he did not return home alive.

The prosecution team presented audio evidence in court, which revealed that the deceased had also confided in his friend that his wife was having a sexual relationship with her former boss, Barrister C.I. Odoh. The deceased had also disclosed that his wife had stayed with a Catholic priest, Rev. Father Maurice Mbeke, as a house help, and the priest had impregnated her. They had a child together, who is now 19 years old and named after her maternal grandfather.

It is a tragic and shocking story that has left many people reeling. The details of the alleged murder are disturbing, and the motive behind it even more so. We can only hope that justice will be served, and that the truth will come to light through the legal proceedings that will follow.
