When members of the Johanne Masowe church found a man having sex with his brother-in-law's wife at their shrine, they beat him up.
Tanaka Musengeyi, age 30, led Nyasha, age 19, who was his brother-in-law Solomon Chawira's wife, to a bushy area where they were caught by members of Sowe Re Jerusalem.
The two were severely beaten because they had messed up their place of worship.
A bystander filmed the beating and put the video on social media.
Nyasha said that Tanaka had been proposing to her every time he came to see them.
At the shrine, someone hits Tanaka Musengeyi.
"When they caught us, three men beat us up," said Nyasha.
"He has been proposing to me for a while, and he led me to the bush where we were caught. We didn't know that it was a place where people went to pray.
"Someone walking by filmed us beating each other and put the video on social media. That's how my husband found out about it.
"We hadn't had sex yet when the three men attacked us," Nyasha said.
Solomon took Nyasha to the shrine, where he asked the people who hurt his wife and Tanaka why they did it.
Solomon: "I heard about Nyasha and my brother-in-adventure law's through social media."
"She said she didn't sleep with Tanaka, so I took her to the shrine and asked the people who attacked them what was going on.
"I haven't talked about this with Tanaka yet. Mukuwasha wangu chaiye akaroora gotwe remumba medu anoita zvinonyangadza kudaro.
"We talked about it as a family, but I haven't decided yet because I didn't get the right information from the people who caught the two," said Solomon.
Tanaka said that the attack happened and that he plans to file a police report against the people who did it.
"Three men beat me up badly when they saw me with Nyasha at their place of worship," Tanaka said.
He said, "I'm busy right now answering more questions about what happened, but I'll call you back when I'm free."
