Members of Parliament (MPs) are considered to be wealthy, with their source of income often linked to corruption.
However, Hon Eric Opoku, former Ashanti Regional Minister and MP for Asunafo South, disagrees with this perception.
He believes that most MPs end up poor because they invest large sums of money in their constituencies to retain their seats in the next election according to a report by MyNewsGH.
Hon Eric Opoku revealed that there are several former MPs who have become poor and are unable to cater for themselves.
Some of them don't even have a car and have to walk on foot, while some can't afford to buy a common car battery.
Hon Eric Opoku also mentioned that it takes current MPs to cater for the medical care of some former MPs when they fall sick. Therefore, life after Parliament is not easy for many MPs.
