The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) caught a fake officer at Quiver Lounge. He was pretending to be a member of the agency.
A report from a person led to the suspect's arrest on Friday night.
The complainant was one of the millers that the government hired to make subsidised maize flour right before the general elections in August 2022.
EACC said that the suspect began calling the complainant on Monday, November 21, and said that he was looking into the supply of subsidized maize flour for the Ministry of Agriculture.
He told the person who complained that he would make sure there were no bad things said about him.
The suspect also said he would help him get any unpaid money from the ministry in exchange for a certain amount of money that they would decide on when they met.
The suspect went ahead and told the complainant to come to the EACC Integrity Centre Offices on Friday, November 25, for an interview and statement recording.
He told the person who filed the complaint to bring his Tax Compliance Certificate, audit reports, and all of his bank account statements from January 2022 so that they could be looked at.
This was supposed to be part of the "ongoing investigation."
As the complainant was on his way to the Integrity Centre, the suspect called to say that they should meet at Quivers Lounge instead because it would be easier for them to talk there.
They were supposed to talk about how much the complainant would have to pay to stay out of trouble and get help getting his money from the agricultural ministry.
"The complainant had already told EACC about the situation, which was unknown to the suspect," the agency said.
Detectives from the EACC caught the suspect while he was waiting for the complainant at the Lounge. He was then taken to the Integrity Center police station to be questioned.
Later, he was taken to Kilimani Police Station, where he is being held until he can be dealt with further in accordance with the law.
