I'm not guilty, says the husband. Olalekan Onikoyi, who is a Director at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), is accused of telling his housekeeper to let dogs loose on his wife, Mrs. Emily Onikoyi, at their home on Fadeyi Street, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos.

I'm not guilty, says the husband

Olalekan Onikoyi, who is a Director at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), is accused of telling his housekeeper to let dogs loose on his wife, Mrs. Emily Onikoyi, at their home on Fadeyi Street, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Guardian found out that the couple has been having problems for years and that the man just gave his wife a letter asking for a divorce.

Pictures that were sent to The Guardian showed the woman with wounds and getting care at the hospital.

Enajero Darlington Eguriase, the son of Mrs. Onikoyi, told what happened: "They have about six dogs in their compound. One boy named Clifford is in charge of the dogs. The boy is like a messenger in the compound. He has nothing to do with either the man or my mother.

"Both husband and wife have problems in their marriages, and there have been cases of domestic violence. The man gave my mother a divorce letter and was asked to appear in court several times, but he didn't show up. They haven't been living together as a married couple.

"My mother went to pray in the morning, so when she came home, Clifford let the dogs go after her as soon as he heard her voice. On a video, the dogs can be seen attacking her.

The Guardian called Onikoyi about the situation, and he said, "I work for the Federal Government. No matter what, public servants don't talk. I'm employed by the Federal Government. Whoever gave you my number knows, and so does everyone else, even in Abuja. I won't be willing to talk. I gave the person who called you the number of my lawyer, if he's interested. As a journalist, I know that you like to be fair. This case is being looked into by the police, who are doing a thorough job of it. If I send you the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), you'll be rude to the person who gave you my number, but as a public servant, I won't talk to everyone."

But in a text message to a family member of the wife, the accused said, "I've known my wife since 1998, and nothing like this has ever happened." What's up? "For what?" We've had the dogs in the house for more than two years. It was a mistake that happened at home, so I took her to the hospital right away so she could get treated before her family from Delta State took her away by force.

Also, the husband's lawyer, Oyedotun Olajide, told The Guardian, "If there's anything you want to know, you can come to my office and we can talk about it."

It was found out that the situation had been reported at the lgbogbo police station in lkorodu, Lagos.

Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, told The Guardian that he had not yet been told about the case.
