Okereke Olufunmilayo, the Manager of a building materials store, was arrested in Ogun State for allegedly kidnapping and killing her hotelier boss, Otunba Abayomi Ajayi Smith.

It was said that her husband, Larry Adebayo Adewumi, and another man, Adebowale Sanni, helped her do it. Some gunmen are said to have killed the hotel owner at Anifowose Estate Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, at about 7:30 a.m. on September 28, 2020.

Even though his family paid a ransom of N15 million to the people who took him, they killed him. Abimbola Oyeyemi, a spokesman for the Ogun State police, said that the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led anti-kidnapping team was successful in September when they found out that the same gang was planning to kidnap the wife and son of the man they killed, Smith.

As the team started technical surveillance on the suspects, 55-year-old Adebowale Sanni was reportedly tracked to Ikeji Arakeji in Osun State, where he was arrested.

During questioning, Sanni admitted that he was looking for Mrs. Olusola Roseline Ajayi on the orders of the ring leader, Larry Adebayo Adewumi, whose wife, Olufunmilayo, worked for Otunba Ajayi. He also admitted that Larry told him where the victim's hotel and other businesses were. Larry told him that if they were able to kidnap the woman and her son, they should kill them after getting the ransom so they wouldn't leave any clues, just like they did with the woman's husband two years ago.

Olufunmilayo and her husband were arrested after she told the police what he had said. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Larry used to be a con artist before he started kidnapping people full-time. Police investigations have shown that Larry has two bank accounts, "where he used to keep money from his criminal activities."

Oyeyemi said that N34,953,455 was in one of the accounts and N4,576,846 was in the other. It was also said that a Toyota Highlander from 2014 was found on him.
