According to a report by Adom Online, the Police in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality in the Bono East Region have arrested five people, including a matron and a landlord, for allegedly stealing food meant for feeding Senior High School students.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Edward Owusu, confirmed that the arrest was made because the individuals were involved in sabotaging the government's free SHS policy. The stolen items include over 24 bags of beans, 40 bags of 50kg of rice, oil, and tin tomatoes from Atebubu SHS and Konkrompe SHS.
The suspects are currently assisting the police in their investigations to determine how the foodstuff was stolen. The MCE received a tip-off that the school's foodstuff had been stolen and stored in a nearby house. He then informed the police and BNI, who promptly went to the location and discovered the stolen items.
The suspects admitted that the stolen items were taken from the school, and the MCE stated that this was not the first time stolen goods had been stored in that location.
The matron and the four others are currently on bail and are expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
