On Monday afternoon, December 5, 2022, the dead body of a missing 3-year-old boy was found in a pit toilet in a village outside of Vuwani in Limpopo, South Africa.
Limpopo police spokesman Col. Malesela Ledwaba said in a statement on Tuesday that the boy was last seen by his uncle at Tshino Nditwanin village on Sunday morning, before his disappearance was reported.
Ledwaba said that a search was done by several groups, including the K9 search and rescue team, emergency services, and local police. He said that "this horrible discovery" was the result.
He said that after the K9 unit reacted near the pit toilet, the team did a thorough search, focusing on the victim's yard.
"The members started digging the pit toilet after doing tests to see what might be inside. The body was found and given to the police in the area," he said.
Lt.-Gen. Thembi Hadebe, who is in charge of police in Limpopo, has asked parents to take extra care of their children.
He said, "These kinds of things can only be stopped if parents are extra careful and watch out for their kids at all times."
