MoMo merchant uses GHc 7.2 million mistakenly sent to him to build houses

A man named Alfa Rafiu, who works as a Point of Sale (POS) operator similar to a MoMo merchant in Ghana, was recently arrested in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, for spending an accidental deposit of N280 (Ghc 7.2) million to his bank account.

The Nigerian Tribune reported that he received the money in several batches a few weeks ago and went on a spending spree, buying houses, cars, and sponsoring people to go on lesser Hajj. However, this sudden wealth drew suspicion from some residents in the area, who expressed surprise at how Rafiu had become a big spender overnight.

Some locals blame Rafiu for not notifying the bank about the mistake and drawing their attention to the huge sum transferred to his account. Instead, he went on a spending spree and was very generous to several people in the community.

This behavior led to his arrest, which was confirmed by SP Ajayi Okasanmi, spokesperson for the State Police Command, on Tuesday. It is unfortunate that Rafiu's actions have resulted in his arrest and highlight the importance of honesty and integrity in all our dealings.
