NPP targeted NDC miners in ‘galamsey’ fight – Mahama

In a formal statement, former President John Dramani Mahama has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of intentionally targeting miners affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in their efforts to combat illegal mining, also known as "galamsey".

According to Mahama, the NPP has confiscated excavators belonging to NDC miners and has given them to NPP miners to continue engaging in galamsey.

Mahama expressed his disappointment with the selective application of justice in the fight against galamsey, pointing out that numerous NDC miners have been incarcerated while their mining concessions have been released to NPP miners.

He cited examples of young men who were arrested and prosecuted for engaging in galamsey simply because they were not members of the NPP. Their excavators were seized under the pretext of being involved in illegal mining and were subsequently handed over to NPP members to continue their mining activities.
