Alex Opoku Mensah was the Regional Director for Ashanti for the National Service Scheme (NSS). He was fired for verbally abusing a nurse at the Manhyia Government Hospital.

In a press release sent out on Thursday, it said that the suspension starts right away.

It also said that the director in trouble has been told about the decision.

The director of the NSS in Ashanti Regional was fired for verbally abusing a nurse.

"The National Service Scheme (NSS) has immediately fired Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah, who was in charge of the Ashanti region.

"The suspension was announced yesterday at an emergency meeting between the Scheme's management and Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah," the press release said.

The statement says that this action is being taken so that his behavior can be looked into further.

"The decision is so that the alleged verbal attack on a nurse at the Manyhia Government Hospital can be looked into further," the statement said.

Alex Opoku-Mensah is said to have yelled at a nurse at the Manhyia Hospital because of how the nurse talked to his daughter, who also works at the hospital as a doctor.

The nurse called the house officer to suggest a change in the prescription because the pharmacy didn't have what the house officer had written down.

In an audio recording that has gone viral, Mr Opoku-Mensah said, “you are very frustrated…Who born dog?…you envy her, and you don’t respect. Are you a doctor? Who are you? Are you mad? Is the hospital yours? Stupid idiot.. that your useless nursing that you do, useless woman… Do you know who I am? I am the Regional Director of the National Service Scheme. Some of you are under me.”

The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Hussein, says that the house officer was upset by how the nurse talked to her and protested because of it.

Dr. Hussein said that the house officer was with her father when she talked to the nurse on the phone. So, Mr. Opoku-Mensah was very angry about how things turned out and went with his daughter to the hospital.
