Nana Yaa Brefo opens up on her struggle with IVF

Ghanaian journalist Nana Yaa Brefo's efforts to conceive and have another child have been put on hold.

She says this follows six unsuccessful attempts at in vitro fertilisation (IVF), which she had hoped would bring her some comfort.

During a major operation at Ridge Hospital while carrying her second child, Nana Yaa revealed in an interview in 2020 that she had lost her womb, which she found difficult to accept.

Speaking about the future, the journalist on Adom TV's M'ashyase3 said she was still optimistic about being able to raise a child again because of the variety of alternatives available.

Nana Yaa admitted that despite her efforts, she had not been successful.

"I have tried different methods of conception and IVF about six times. Four were successful, but the pregnancy was eventually terminated, so I am currently on a break. Apart from the cost, the health complications are significant, so I can now relax. She confided to Afia Amankwa Tamakloe: “Either the person involved or the eggs you are using.”

The brusque journalist admitted that she had been thinking about adoption for a long time, but lacked the strength to actually go through with it.

"I've discussed with the social welfare director for about three times, but I haven't had the courage to go through with it. I visited an orphanage to make a donation and even met two girls there, but I'm working on something that will decide what comes next," she said.
