In Ghana, Senior High School (SHS) is the next level of education after Junior High School (JHS). Check out the oldest Senior High Schools in Ghana.

Games, sports and quizzes are held at the SHS level to bring students together and determine the winner of the competition.

The top 5 oldest schools are listed in chronological order in this article.

Ghana's Oldest Senior High Schools

1. MFANTSIPIM SCHOOL:

Mfantsipim, an all-boys residential secondary school in Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana, has a reputation as one of the largest senior high schools. Many people, including students, are aware that Mfantsipim is one of the most academically and athletically successful secondary schools in Ghana, but they are not aware that it is the oldest institution in Ghana, let alone the year of its foundation. The institution was founded in 1876, making it the oldest school in existence, as Mfantsipim's founding year is far older than all other secondary schools combined.

2.WESLEY GIRLS SCHOOL

Wesley Girls High School is a single-sex institution commonly known as "wey gey hey" (girls' school). The school, located near Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana, was founded many years ago by the widow of a Methodist preacher with 25 girls. Wesley Girls High School, founded in 1884, is the second oldest school after Mfantsipim School.

3. GHANA SECONDARY TECHNICAL SCHOOL

GSTS is a science and technology-based secondary school in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. It is the third oldest secondary school in Ghana after Wesley Girls High School, which was founded in 1909.

4.ADISADEL COLLEGE

Adisadel College, sometimes known as "ADISCO", is a boarding school for Anglican boys in Cape Coast, Ghana. In addition to being the first school in Ghana to establish a cadet corps, the institution is also, after GHANA SEC. TECH. SCHOOL, the fourth oldest school in Ghana. It was established in 1910.

5.ACCRA HIGH SCHOOL

Accra High School, better known as "AHISCO", is a co-educational institution with a black and white colour scheme. Founded by Rev. James Thomas Robert in Accra, Ghana, it is the fifth oldest school in Ghana but the oldest in the Greater Accra Region. It was founded in 1923.
