Members of two patrol teams in the Eastern Region, Donkorkrom and Maame Krobo, have been accused of taking bribes and letting suspects go who were carrying over 109 slabs of a compressed substance thought to be Indian hemp, also known as "Wee."

MyNewsGh saw a police situational report that confirmed that police investigators knew that drugs were hidden in a blue and orange Benz Bus with the registration number GS 4979-12 that was coming from the Volta Region and going to Donkorkrom.

The vehicle was watched, and later information showed that the Donkorkrom and Maame Krobo Police Patrol teams, who knew what was going on, allegedly took money from the driver and the conductor, both in cash and via mobile money, and then let the suspect go.

After allegedly taking the money, the Maame Krobo Patrol team decided to take the whole shipment of 109 compressed parcels as their booty.

The surveillance team, which was led by a senior police officer, carried out an operation on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., which led to the arrest of the released suspect driver, Dorne Akapaka, age 48, and the conductor, Kojo Ashiabi, age 27. The 109 compressed packages were also taken from the Maame Krobo Police Station.

From the time the suspects were taken into custody on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at about 1 p.m. until they were let go, nothing was written in their station diary.

The suspects were taken to the Mpraeso Central Police Station and the parcels were taken to the Donkorkrom Police Division.

Corporal Evans Mensah, who was in charge of the Donkorkrom Patrol team, had a bribe of GHc 4,950.00 taken from him at the Donkorkrom Divisional Headquarters.

The 109 PACKAGES of things that might be drugs were kept, and the car was taken away so that more could be found out.

ACP Isaac Asante, who is in charge of the Eastern Regional Police, has told ACP Christopher Klomega, who is in charge of the Donkorkrom Division, to call the patrol teams led by Corporal Evans Mensah and Corporal Anthony Jonathan Gbeve before him.
