Prime Suspect Reacts to Allegations by Police on Attack & Extortion Claims

Mon, 3 Apr 2023 Source: Club Mate

Kwame Ato Asare Ani, who is the primary suspect in the alleged police assault and extortion case in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region, has posted a video from his undisclosed location claiming that he is not a criminal as alleged by the Ghana Police Service.

In the video, the suspect argues that the information out there, including guns that the police claimed they retrieved from his group, does not belong to them but is an attempt to frame them up, despite having a good working relationship with the police.

Kwame Asare, who is heard in the video, asserts that "the truth of the matter is that we are not thieves or armed robbers, but it is the police who are trying to frame us up as thieves."

He further contends that the guns the police retrieved were not theirs, and that the Police Service knows very well that they went to confiscate those guns from galamsey sites.

He adds that it is the police who engaged him and have been working with him in the area because of his strength and toughness. He therefore wants to tell Ghanaians that he is not a thief.

The suspect also states that he is prepared to speak the truth regardless of the consequences.

On April 2nd, the Police Service announced the arrest of four suspects connected to the attacks on personnel of the Axim Divisional police patrol team on March 9th, and revealed that the alleged mastermind of the attacks, Kwame Ato Asare Ani, was still on the run.
