Fans of football are used to seeing yellow and red cards given out to players who do something wrong.

But they won't be used to officials using a white card, which has the exact opposite effect.

Fans in Portugal saw the new card when the women's teams from Sporting Lisbon and Benfica played in a cup match.

At the end of the first half, with Benfica up 3-0, it was said that someone on the bench felt sick.

The person was helped by medical staff from both sides.

After taking care of the problem, the referee is seen holding up the white card.

Fans cheered loudly when they saw the rare color for the first time.

In Portugal, white cards are part of a new plan.

The yellow and red cards are meant to punish teams, but the white card is meant to praise teams for playing fairly.

To promote morals in sports, the new idea was started.

In the quarterfinal of the cup, Benfica would go on to win 5-0.

Even though it isn't widely used yet, the white card is the latest change to football rules.

Some other ideas that could become the norm to make the game safer and more fun are concussion substitutions and longer stoppage time, as seen in the Qatar World Cup.
