George Chiteto died less than a week after he was made a Bishop of the Anglican Church.
The 59-year-old man had just finished preaching at a funeral when he passed out and had to be rushed to the hospital.
One of Chiteto's close friends told the news media that the Bishop had told him how he would die.
It came true that a preacher's wish was to die in the pulpit. George Chiteto died right after his first sermon as the Bishop of the Anglican Church in Dodoma, Tanzania.
According to the church's website, Chiteto died on September 3, shortly after giving a sermon at the funeral of the wife of a fellow clergy member in Tanga.
After preaching at the service, he had just sat down when he felt weak and fell over. He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors there said he was dead. Chiteto passed away only six days after he was made a priest.
During the requiem mass for the 59-year-old on September 7, a close friend told Millard Ayo that the late minister always talked about dying.
"Mzee said that he liked to die. He said over and over that he didn't want to die in a bad way, but instead wanted to die while telling people about Jesus.
Chiteto and Mbogori worked together closely for eight years. Mbogori remembered a time in 2021 when Chiteto was in the hospital but was sure he would be okay.
"I have to preach until I die."
He also talked about the first time a friend called him to tell him that Chiteto had passed out at the altar, which reminded him of his wishes.
"I thought about his predictions, so when they called again to tell me he had died, I wasn't shocked. He said that he would say his last words at the altar."
