Respect Between NDC Executives And Minority MPs Completely Broken?

Mon, 3 Apr 2023 Source: Club Mate

Andy Kankam, The editor of Informer newspaper, has expressed his dismay at the current state of the relationship between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) national executives and the minority Members of Parliament (MPs).

Specifically, Kankam has accused the NDC national chairman, Asiedu Nketia, and general secretary, Fifi Kwetey, of displaying disrespect towards the minority MPs.

In an interview with Movement TV’s ‘B3 Kyere Mu‘show Kankam has described the tactics employed by the NDC national executives as "draconian," aimed at intimidating the MPs. However, he added that their tactics have not been successful.

Kankam singled out Fifi Kwetey and advised him to engage with the MPs rather than issuing letters to give directives.

Kankam reminded Kwetey that as the former Ketu South MP, he should know how to engage with his colleagues in parliament. Instead, Kwetey's approach has been to issue letters in a bid to intimidate the MPs.

The minority MPs, following the instructions of the NDC chairman and general secretary, had expressed their reasons for opposing the government of President Akufo-Addo, citing an overcrowded government and the need to downsize.

During the debates on the approval of the nominees, it was clear that the minority was going to reject them. However, in a secret vote held on Friday, March 24, all the nominees were confirmed, despite the earlier indications that the minority would reject them.
