Retract and apologize for your fabricated quotes – Bawumia’s Office to Multimedia

Tue, 11 Apr 2023 Source: Club Mate

The Vice President's Office has issued a response demanding that Multimedia Group, a media organization, retract and remove quotes attributed to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia from its article regarding the creation of 2.1 million jobs by the current administration and joblessness during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) era.

The response, which was signed by Dr. Gideon Boako, also calls for an apology for misquoting and misrepresenting the Vice President. The statement emphasizes that the demand is necessary to prevent individuals who have not had access to the Vice President's complete address from being misled.

According to reports by Multimedia Group subsidiaries, myjoyonline.com and Joy News, the Vice President allegedly stated during a speech in Kwahu Mpraeso that the NPP had created 2.1 million jobs, and the report quoted him as evidence. The Vice President's Office denies that he made the statement "These days there are jobs everywhere," and therefore seeks a retraction, deletion, and apology.

Read full statement below:

The attention of the Office of the Vice President has been drawn to a quote in a myjoyonline.com news report titled: “We’ve created 2.1m jobs unlike the NDC who created unemployment – Dr. Bawumia”, which was published on Saturday, April 7, 2023.

The story quoted Dr. Bawumia as saying: “During the NDC administration, there were no jobs, they created unemployment instead of employment, BUT THESE DAYS THERE ARE JOBS EVERYWHERE.”

The Office of the Vice President wishes to state for the record that portions of the quote were fabricated, as nowhere in the Vice President’s address at Mpraeso did he say, “These days there are jobs everywhere,” as was reported by myjoyonline.com and shared by its social media handles.

The Office finds it strange that comments he did not utter, found their way into the story and were attributed to him in a direct quote.

The misrepresentation is still highlighted on some social media platforms of multimedia such as Joy News.

We have been compelled to set the records straight, as many unsuspecting readers may not have the benefit of the full address of the Vice President’s address. We ask that a media house of the stature of Joyfm retract and delete the fabricated quotes and apologize for what can only be described as unprofessional conduct on the part of some of its employees who engaged in this fabrication.
