An officer from the Ashanti South Police Command has been confirmed dead after falling into an abandoned mine located in the operational jurisdiction of Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd in the Amansie District of the Ashanti region according to a publication by Starrfm.
According to the report, sources close to the management of the large-scale mining firm, the tragic incident occurred on the evening of April 3rd, 2023.
The police officer was part of a team deployed to carry out an undisclosed security operation within the mining firm's area but fell into a deep pit that was covered with stagnant water.
The Manso-based Asanko mining firm and the Ashanti regional police command are expected to release a comprehensive report on the officer's untimely demise while on duty.
