People in the neighborhood of Apete in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, were shocked to find a dead man in his bedroom.
There, the body had been for four years. People who used to live near the dead in Portharcourt, Rivers State, say they saw him in Ibadan four years ago, but he hasn't been seen there since.
No one in the neighborhood knew he had died until this week, when they went into his yard to cut down the tall grass that snakes and rodents liked to hide in. The reason for his death has not been found yet.
People from the north, who are often called "Abokis," were hired to mow the deceased's lawn. They were told to climb the fence and enter the property through the back door because the gate was locked from the inside.
But they found the owner's car on the property. It was hidden by a small patch of grass. Witnesses say that once the workers had cut down the overgrown bush, they looked into one of the rooms and saw the rotting bones of the victim sitting on the bed with the phone in his hand.
When the workers found out what had happened, they sounded the alarm and ran away. As soon as the alarm went off, the leaders of the community's Residents Association called the Apete Division of the Nigerian Police.
A local told us that Oyo State Police Command officers are looking into what happened right now.
