President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Sarah Adwoa Safo, who was formerly the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, were spotted in public for the first time after her dismissal by the president.
The two met at the commissioning of an ultra-modern police barracks in Kwabenya on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, and images from the event captured the moment they greeted each other.
Despite the circumstances surrounding Adwoa Safo's departure from her position, the two appeared to have put their differences aside.
They exchanged pleasantries with broad smiles on their faces and even locked hands in a firm handshake while engaged in conversation.
It's worth noting that the president had previously dismissed Adwoa Safo from her role on July 28, 2022, but the reasons for her dismissal were not made public. Adwoa Safo had also been absent from her position for several months as she dealt with family issues in the United States, which she had explained in a statement.
Criticism was leveled against the president for not removing Adwoa Safo from her role sooner, with some members of the public alleging that he was withholding action due to some sort of leverage she held over him. However, this recent public interaction between the two seems to suggest that any tensions that may have existed in the past have been resolved.
