Serwaa Amihere, a broadcast journalist, has called on the Ghana Education Service (G.E.S.) to stop teachers from filming pupils for social media.

Teachers are increasingly filming their students and posting the videos on social media to see how people react to them.

On Wednesday 22 February, Ms Amihere said in a series of tweets that the practice was becoming dangerous and should stop.

"Recently, some teachers in schools in Ghana have been recording a conversation between their students and posting it on social media to get likes and comments," she wrote on Twitter.

She continued: "I wouldn't mind if these videos showed how hard it is for these school children to get an education and how people can help them. But these videos make fun of these kids who have trouble speaking English or communicating in any other way.”

The award-winning journalist said the children shouldn't practise because it won't help them and could damage their confidence for the future. So she asked the G.E.S. to help her stop it.

"I'm asking the Ministry of Education and the GES to stop some teachers from doing this because it's wrong and it can damage the children's confidence.”

She added: "The digital marks that these videos will leave will hurt some of these children very much and we need to speak with one voice to stop this." Let's look after our children," she said.
