Shocking: UK Police Forcefully Detain Fuse ODG in Car Search Drama Over Wee Smell

Fri, 19 May 2023 Source: Club Mate

Fuse ODG, a Ghanaian-British artist, experienced a distressing incident in Brixton involving UK police officers who forcibly handcuffed and pulled him out of his car. The officers claimed they detected the smell of cannabis emanating from his vehicle. Despite Fuse ODG resisting their forceful actions, he was ultimately overpowered. He was accompanied by a business partner during this troubling encounter.

The artist firmly believes that he was a victim of racial profiling by the UK law enforcement officers. In a video capturing the incident, Fuse ODG can be heard questioning the officers, asking if they had a warrant and expressing his disbelief. The officers justified their actions by explaining that they handcuffed him to prevent potential harm. They stated concerns that he might ingest the drugs if given the opportunity.

Subsequently, the officers searched the car and discovered drugs, which led to the artist and his companions being allowed to leave. Fuse ODG shared the details of this incident on his social media platforms after posting a video that quickly gained attention.

Reflecting on the distressing event, Fuse ODG confessed to feeling hesitant about sharing the incident publicly. He expressed exhaustion from witnessing similar videos and embarrassment due to his own sense of pride. However, he eventually decided to share a censored version of the events.

The incident occurred on February 28, 2023. Fuse ODG disclosed that he endured six hours of excruciating pain in Accident and Emergency (A&E) due to the tightness of the handcuffs. He also suffered neck and back pain for several weeks afterward.

Fuse ODG acknowledged the unfortunate reality faced by many individuals growing up in the UK. He emphasized that even after the global impact of the George Floyd incident, such experiences persist. The artist noted the alarming frequency of videos showing police officers assaulting and mistreating black children in the UK, often seeking his help.

He highlighted the disheartening fact that, as a black man in this system, his achievements and positive contributions to society do not shield him from being perceived solely through the lens of racial bias. Fuse ODG shared that this was not the first time he or his companion, Mr. Hackett, had encountered such treatment. Previously, similar incidents were almost a weekly occurrence. However, they now have the resources to handle these matters differently.

Fuse ODG and Mr. Hackett have taken steps by lodging a formal complaint with the Metropolitan Police and expressed gratitude to Tunde Okewale of Urban Lawyers for supporting them. However, they do not hold high expectations for justice within the existing system. They believe that the true battle lies internally, in preserving their confidence, identity, and dignity despite these challenges.

The artist urged viewers to watch the video of the incident and encouraged them to share their thoughts on the matter.
