Stepmother ‘cooks’ 8-year-old stepson’s buttocks with hot water

Ehornam Mattson, 8, has experienced the worst treatment of his life from his father and stepmother, Mrs. Lencia Akompi, aka Maa Yaa, in Abokobi in the Greater Accra Region.

According to reports, the little child was made to sit in hot water by his stepmother.

In an effort to relieve Ehornam's itching in his buttocks, Maa Yaa allegedly subjected him to "inhumane" therapy, leaving him severely damaged to the point that he is unable to sit or bend.

In order to feed, Ehornam Mattson, who is unable to sit or bend over, must lay flat on his stomach, according to what Florence, his biological mother, told Modernghana's Isaac Donkor Distinguished in an interview.

The ex-wife of Mr. Frederick Mattson, Miss Florence, said that financial strain compelled her to let her two sons, both of whom were boys, live with their father and the "wicked" stepmother.

"My ex-husband, with whom I had three children, a girl and two boys, asked me to bring the boys to live with him and his wife so he could take care of them due to financial reasons.”

She explained, "I never wanted to accept because I knew the current wife was a nasty lady, but I had no choice at the time because I didn't have money, so I agreed for kids to live with them, where he enrolled them in school around December 2022.”

They (the father and the stepmother) reportedly wanted to keep it a secret from Florence, Ehornam's mother, even after inflicting pain on the boy, but she claimed that something kept urging her to see her children and that after making several attempts, she was finally given the address to their school.

They never wanted me to interact with the kids in person or even call them on the phone. After putting pressure on them, the father later showed me Oyibi School in Accra, where he had registered his children.

"When I got there, I asked for them, and I noticed that my second kid, who is 8 years old, couldn't walk well. I inquired what was wrong, and he replied that he had itches in his buttocks and had told his stepmother about them. His buttocks were severely burned and injured when the stepmother forced him to sit in extremely hot water.”She added in a tearful voice.

She remarked sarcastically that when she confronted the father and the stepmother, they both claimed that the youngster had totally recovered despite the fact that he was still dealing with burns and was unable to sit or bend.

Miss Florence stated, "I headed to their house after finding out where they were staying, but to them, the wound has been healed, and the boy who can't still sit or bend is okay," after being denied entrance by the school administration to remove the kids.

She emphasised that she had brought them home and had been giving him Gentian Violet and Vaseline treatments, noting that her husband had only made one visit to give them the vaseline.

She responded, "Yes, I have reported it to the DOVVSU (Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit), and they told me to bring a medical report from the hospital where he was treated first, which is Ridge Hospital, but they are demanding GHS 500 from me." When asked if she had reported it to the police, she added, "But they are demanding GHS 500 from me."

She screamed out, pleading with Ghanaians to assist her in getting justice for the abuse given to her kid, saying that because she was poor and unable to pay the fine, she was now unable to do so.

Miss Florence claims that although the problem occurred roughly two months ago, the wound is still open.
