A 22-year-old carpentry apprentice says that his friends gave him "sobolo" that they thought contained "wee" (Indian hemp), which made him kill his stepfather and grandmother. The police found him at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
According to his Uncle, Mr. Kumadoe, the suspect, Alex Tenge, told the police that after drinking the sobolo, a locally made drink, he became hyper, which made him kill the victims.
The event took place in the Eastern Region at Koforidua Okurasi.
Mr. Kumadoe told Accra's Adom FM on Monday morning, December 5, 2022, that Alex went into hiding after the incident and was found by the police.
He is said to have told the police what happened before the horrible murder.
Alex is said to have told the police that everything felt like a dream.
Mr. Kumadoe said that the family was helping the police in their investigation.
He said that Alex drinks alcohol, but he didn't know that he took "wee." He also said that Alex's family and the whole town were shocked by what happened.
Alex quit Junior High School (JHS) form one and asked his family to help him learn how to be a carpenter. They did, and when he was done with his apprenticeship, he was just waiting for his family to give him his diploma.
Police are looking for the friends who gave Alex the sobolo drink, which is thought to have had 'wee,' or Indian hemp, in it.
In a radio interview with Adom FM, Alex's uncle said that the whole thing happened when Alex's father was out of town, in the Volta Region.
People from all over Ghana came to Koforidua Okurasi for a party.
Alex is said to have tried to touch a certain woman after he drank, but she fought him off and screamed for help.
Alex's attention was drawn to her by the way she screamed.
In the evening, Alex's clothes had blood stains on them.
Alex's grandmother went to the room where Alex's stepfather was sleeping to see if there was anything going on.
She screamed when she saw the blood and the unconscious man in the room. That's when Alex is said to have attacked her and cut her up, and then he ran away.
