In a tragic incident in the Ashanti Region, a 35-year-old farmer named Emmanuel Agyei has been accused of brutally killing a family of three and now stands remanded in police custody. The Akropong District Court heard the case on Monday, May 8, 2023. Emmanuel Agyei has been charged with two counts of causing harm and murder according to the relevant sections of the law. During his initial appearance, the court did not take his plea, and he is scheduled to appear again on May 22, 2023.

According to Detective Inspector Alex Agberkornu, who prosecuted the case before His Worship Alfred Rockson Kpodo, the incident occurred on May 5, 2023. It started with an argument between the accused and Mr. Obed Asamoah over the rental of a room in a house previously owned by the accused's late father. The suspect, allegedly fueled by anger, retrieved a sharp machete from his room and attacked Mr. Obed Asamoah, as well as his one-and-a-half-year-old son Samuel Kwame Amo and his 19-year-old daughter, Bridget Owusu. The victims were rushed to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment, but sadly, the toddler did not survive.

After committing the crime, the suspect went into hiding. However, he eventually approached a local pastor and requested that they accompany him to the police station to surrender. The pastor obliged, and upon their arrival at the Adankwame police station, Emmanuel Agyei was promptly arrested. Currently, Mr. Obed Asamoah and his daughter are receiving medical treatment, while the body of the deceased toddler has been preserved at the morgue of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Following the court proceedings, Osei Bonsi Mathias, the uncle of the deceased, expressed his faith in the country's judicial system. He expressed optimism that justice would be served now that the suspect has been apprehended and presented before a competent court. However, he also appealed to the prosecution to expedite the investigations to ensure a smooth progression of the case.
