According to The Punch newspaper, the Katsina State Police Command has detained Maryam Habibu, an 18-year-old housewife, for allegedly killing her four-year-old stepson by plunging him into a well. The state's Kafur Local Government Area is where the incident took place.
According to SP Gambo Isah, the Command's spokeswoman, the adolescent was taken into custody on November 9, 2022.
SP Isah revealed that Maryam is suspected of visiting the late boy's home, luring him outside, and then dumping him into a well.
After their divorce or separation, Maryam and her victim's father had been married.
The suspect, who spoke Hausa, admitted to the crime and added that the boy was destined to die at that time when newsmen questioned her about it.
She uttered:
"It's true that I threw the youngster into the well where he perished, but that day was predestined for his demise. That's why he passed away.
It's terrifying how quickly terrible crimes are being committed in our society. The type and scope of the offenses committed have also changed. However, it is not too difficult to understand how these things came to be.
People who have been exposed to murder, mindless bloodletting, and other heinous crimes for a long time quickly grow numb to them and lose all regard for human life. They stop seeing the sacredness of blood as anything special, and they are able to murder without hesitation at the slightest provocation.
This is what our society is gradually turning into, particularly in northern Nigeria.
