The sad story of the popular radio presenter who stole from church offertory to buy heroin, cocaine

Eric Noah King, a Ghanaian radio presenter, has described how drug addiction led him to steal from the church offertory.

Speaking on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM, he claimed that drugs caused him to sell all his possessions, stop working and spend time in ghettos.

According to Noah King, at one point his addiction was so severe that he even stole money from the church offering bowl to buy drugs to satisfy his urges.

He said: I was a personal assistant to a man of God and I would take some of the envelopes when the offering came and we would calculate the money.

He told the host, Kwame Dadzie, that none of my family members want anything to do

Through prayer and the will to be free, he was finally able to free himself from the grip of addiction after 25 years of drug use.

He asserts that anyone who uses drugs will find it extremely difficult to stop if they don't make it a priority and pray about it.

If you try to take spirituality out of cocaine and heroin addiction, you will have failed. "Believe me," he urged.

Noah King recalled how he first experimented with drugs before turning to radio. He claimed that after finishing his A-levels he went to a club and, after talking to a woman, a friend advised him that heroin combined with cannabis would help him feel more comfortable approaching women. He tried it and got used to it.

The 46-year-old presenter added that he had been able to abstain from using any kind of drug for the past 14 months and was now in recovery.

In the interview, he said: I've given up drugs for good.

He recounted how a meeting with Apostle Cobi Gbingor Washington, the CEO of Chosen Rehab Centre, led to his decision to give up drugs for good. The meeting changed his life.

I came to the realisation that I needed to take the low road and be humble before I could see what God would do in my life if I chose to go to a rehab centre. And I can honestly say that since I set foot in the Chosen Rebab Centre, my life has changed for the better. I am now flawless like the moon, illogical like the stars and indomitable like the sand. This is the Lord's work and it is wonderful in our sight, he said.

He continued to take drugs even after his pastor enrolled him at Trinity Theological College.

He was appointed communications director of the centre while undergoing treatment at the Selected Rehab Centre in Accra.

Noah King, who worked as a drive-time presenter on Peace FM in the early 2000s, was motivated to enter the radio industry by Azigiza Jnr. He said Azigiza taught him how to operate the turntables and play music.

He has worked with radio stations in Techiman, Brekum, Nkawkaw and Accra.
