This is clearly a mental health issue - Analyst on Inspector who shot girlfriend

According to Emmanuel Mawanye Kotin, the Executive Director of the African Center for Security and Counterterrorism, the Ghana Police Service is facing a lot of pressure, which is leading to officers behaving abnormally. The Service is supposed to help officers transform, but Mr. Kotin believes that the current administration, led by Dampare, has neglected this aspect.

Mr. Kotin made these comments regarding the alleged murder of Victoria Dapaah, who was shot multiple times by her alleged boyfriend, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi. The Inspector is stationed at Manhyia and is part of the Ashanti Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit. Mr. Kotin believes that the incident is a mental health issue, as officers are becoming weaker mentally due to operational challenges.

The Security Analyst also claimed that the current IGP started well, but he has now become complacent. Mr. Kotin alleges that there is a group of people within the police administration called the Dampare Boys, who are being unilaterally promoted against the official structures, leading to the promotion of many Inspectors.

Inspector Twumasi appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday, April 25th, after his arrest over the weekend. He denied any intention to commit the crime and stated that the incident is between him and God. He is scheduled to reappear in court on Tuesday, May 30th.
