Two Weeks Old Baby Stolen From Parents In Broad Day Light

Police in Blantyre are looking for a thief who took a two-week-old baby from Quarry location in the city's business district on December 16.

The stolen baby was named Gift Mauluka by Aubrey Singanyama, who is the Deputy Public Relations Officer at the Blantyre Police Station. Gift Mauluka is from Nyalugwe Village in the Traditional Authority Kadewere in the Chiradzulu District.

"According to reports, the baby's mother went to the market on December 16, 2022, around 3 p.m., leaving the baby with his grandmother. After a short while, the baby started crying, so the grandmother sent a nine-year-old girl to the market with the baby strapped to her back to look for the baby's mother.

"The girl couldn't find the child's mother. When she went back home, she met an unknown woman who told her she knew where the toddler's mother was and the girl gave the child to her without knowing it," said Singanyama.

Singanyama said that when the grandmother got home, she asked the girl where the child was. When the girl told her the whole story, the grandmother went to the Soche Police Station and told them what happened. They are now looking for the person who did this.
