We’ll show you in 2024 – Former NPP Chairman Warns party

According to an article published by MyNewsGH, Mr. Akwasi Nti, the former Fomena Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has threatened to lead a protest vote against the party if it does not declare the constituency as an orphan constituency for an open contest.

He believes that the situation in the constituency this time around is worse than what happened during the 2020 elections when the only independent MP Hon Andrew Assiamah Amoako contested.

Mr. Nti has warned that if the party does not play fair, the people of Fomena will vote against the party in both presidential and parliamentary elections.

He emphasized that the constituency is still an orphan constituency as the independent MP did not go to Parliament on the ticket of the NPP. Mr. Nti believes that the decision to vote against the party or not is up to the people of Fomena, and no one can force them to obey the party's rules.

The NPP has recently issued a statement that barred Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from contesting sitting NPP Members of Parliament on the same ticket in the 2024 elections. This decision affected National, Regional, and Constituency executives as well.

The party's reasoning was to eliminate the rivalry between the sitting MPs and the MMDCEs and avoid other problems that may arise in the party's primary in those areas across the country.

Despite this decision, Mr. Nti insists that the NPP did not count his constituency among orphan constituencies where MMDCEs can contest a sitting MP. He reiterated that Fomena is still an orphan constituency, and the party did not mention it.

He believes that the people of Fomena will make their decision on whether to obey the party or not. Mr. Nti predicts that people will be amazed at what will happen in the constituency during the upcoming elections.
