Why I mostly sing in English instead of Fante - Lasmid

Ghanaian musician and songwriter Lasmid, real name Nathaniel Owusu, has explained why he sings mostly in English.

"My management and I didn't plan for me to sing mostly in English but to shout out to Papa Kaywa because sometimes he likes it better when I do my Fante raps," he said.

He continued, "But I think if we do the songs in a way that everybody in Africa can understand them, then at least everybody can understand English.

The Friday Night singer told Amansan Krakye in an exclusive interview on Showbiz on Property that not everyone will understand him when he sings in Fante.

"As far as the Fante language is concerned, not everybody will be able to understand it because sometimes there are people who speak Twi but they don't even understand the Fante language," he said, according to MyNewsGh.com.

"Sometimes people from other tribes who don't speak Twi can understand you perfectly when you speak English. If that's the case, why don't I just sing all my songs in English?"

"So that even if you don't understand Twi or Fante, you can at least understand my songs in English," he said on Cape Coast's Property Radio.
