Dr. Clement Apaak, who represents Builsa South in Parliament, has raised concerns about the potential misuse of Ghana cards by others to register sim cards without the owner's knowledge.
This has led to worries about the system's integrity and its suitability as the only form of identification for voter registration.
According to some members of the Ghanaian public, certain telecommunications companies may have used their Ghana cards to register sim cards for other subscribers, without their consent. This has caused confusion for some customers, who have been told they have already reached their limit when attempting to register new sim cards, despite being unaware of any previous registration.
In response to these concerns, Dr. Clement Apaak has taken to Twitter to express his views. He believes that the misuse of Ghana cards to register sim cards highlights the vulnerability of the Ghana card system and supports the view that it should not be used as the sole form of identification for voter registration.
He Tweeted: “Peoples Ghanacards used to register SIM cards by others without their knowledge? Is it not clear now, as many argued before, that the Ghanacard and associated data can be manipulated? And this is the card Jean Mensa wants to be the sole ID for purposes of registration to vote?”
