Police have arrested Pherine Maero, a 32-year-old nurse, for giving her two children poisoned food, which killed them in Mwiyala, Kenya, on the outskirts of Kakamega town.

Maero poisoned her two children, who were 7 and 9, and then called her ex-husband and said, "Come get your dead kids."
Charles Akhonya, who works as a watchman at the apartment where she lives, said that the woman came up to him at 3 a.m. and asked him to open the gate for her "husband." When he went with her to their house, he found two dead children on their bed.
The woman tried to stab herself in the neck with a knife. She was saved, and she is being treated at a hospital in Kakamega while police look into what happened.
Neighbors who talked to the press said that since the woman and her husband broke up, she has been a mess. At one point, she even broke her husband's car, which was parked at the apartment.
Valerian Obore, the head of the Kakamega Central OCPD, confirmed the incident and said that the suspect, who is in critical condition in the hospital, will be charged with murder when he or she gets better.
The kids' bodies were taken to the mortuary at the Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
