Woman Runs From Home To Avoid Mob Attack For Lesbianism

Mon, 14 Nov 2022 Source: Club Mate

According to reports, a 29-year-old woman who resides in New Zongo at Asokore Mampong in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, has vanished from her home.

Salamatu, who operates a neighborhood grocery business, hasn't been seen in days.

According to reports, she is escaping from the community's outrage over her connection with lesbianism.

She and her lesbian lover, Maria, reportedly came under attack on November 1, 2022, in Maria's home after a fellow renter informed the authorities that the two were having sex.

Salamatu was able to flee the mob attack, but Maria's home in the Kumasi suburb of Sawaba was destroyed by fire.

Salamatu made the decision to flee the area without leaving any traces or an address out of concern that she would be found and attacked in the same way.

Salamatu's mother, who supported her by pleading for alms after her father passed away, was likewise run over by a car and rendered helpless.

Since no one from Salamatu's immediate family can be found, the community doesn't know where she is.

Since same-sex sexual practices are forbidden in Ghana since 1860, she must be escaping mob attacks or being pursued by the law. If the practice and participation are determined to be consensual, it carries a three-year prison sentence.

In Ghana, LGBT rights are severely repressed.

LGBT people frequently experience physical and violent homophobic attacks, which are frequently encouraged by the media, religious and political leaders.

Young gay people being expelled from their homes is a common occurrence, according to reports.

Alhaji Bawa Seidu, Salamatu's landlord, has in the meantime officially reported Salamatu's disappearance to the Asawase police.
