Without Scott, Bristol City cannot afford a "spending spree."

Alex Scott, a teen who has been the subject of intense transfer rumours since he joined Bristol City's academy in 2019, will be 18 in 2024.

Nigel Pearson, manager of Bristol City, has stated that despite the midfielder Alex Scott's £25 million price tag, the club will not be able to embark on a spending binge.

Scott, who is only 19 years old, has transfer rumours surrounding a Premier League club.

The England U-20 international has received several offers, but the Robins are determined to keep him.

The club's salary bill would be capped regardless of whether or not a deal is reached for Alex, Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol.

No amount of money, not even £25 million, will allow us to go on a shopping binge. It's to our advantage to keep him inside, so that's what we'll do.There have been offers for him, but we intend to hold on to him if at all possible.

"But I think that will always be a constant for us: the pursuit of ways to improve the team through recruitment."

Guernsey-born Scott signed a four-year contract with Bristol City on his eighteenth birthday after joining the club's academy in 2019 from his native club, Guernsey FC.

He started 42 of last year's 46 league games and was named the Championship's Rookie of the Year at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season.

As far as I'm concerned, we've made our stance pretty plain as a football club, and that is for anybody to gain the opportunity to talk to him we're talking about £25 million, so I don't know how many proposals there have been," Pearson added.

I've read with curiosity that some journalists are suggesting that perhaps we're making our price for him too high, as there have been stories of bids for £21m and similar amounts in various news outlets. But what they don't get is that we have no intention of selling him, which is why we've set his price so high; in fact, after watching him in preseason, we should be asking £30 million for him.We as a club have said, "He's going to cost £25m as a starting point," and if he goes for less than that, you can be sure that I won't be happy.I think we've made a statement as a club and gotten ourselves into a good financial position; we've built a squad according to our physical, but also our financial, limitations; all of these things put together mean we're in a pretty good place, and we'll be stronger if we keep Alex in.

The team has more harmony overall. When asked if the club would be able to sign another player before the summer transfer window closed, Nigel Pearson suggested they might.

Four new players—defenders Ross McCrorie, Rob Dickie, and Haydon Roberts, and midfielder Jason Knight—have joined Bristol City this summer.

Pearson has not ruled out adding another player before the transfer window closes after they finished 14th in the Championship last season.

As Pearson put it, "this season gives us a real opportunity to show what we're about, so I'm looking forward to it." He went on to say that he is pleased with the current set of players because "we've got a much better balance" and the club's mood is generally upbeat.

"I think it bodes very well for us in the Championship because we have a pretty well-balanced, pacey, energetic team," said one player.Of course, I do not expect the league to be anything less than extremely challenging this year. But I feel we have as good a shot as anyone else.

Meanwhile, midfielder Ayman Benarous, who re-ruptured his ACL in December, is making good progress in his recuperation, but there is still no timeline on his return, while defender Rob Atkinson will not be with the group until "the new year, maybe" after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in February.
