Venus film production's latest movie "Savannah" to be premiered has seen uproar from certain parts of the country agitating
After the release of the movie's trailer, section of the youth believed to be citizens of Dagbon have lamented bitterly with comments believed to be threats. One wrote: "This is not a representation of the Dagbon culture. FGM is not part of our culture and Venus Films can not force it on us. It's never been practised anywhere in Dagbon and that must be made loud and clear. We will protest this film when they come to Tamale. Dagbon has one of the greatest and sophisticated culture in Africa and should not be represented this way. This project is shambolic and without any merit; it's almost like pinning a Muslim to pork. Shame!"
Another person also supported him by saying : "If these people intentionally want to tarnish the image of the great Dagbon with this movie, may thunder strike them dead. Never dare play with a lion in his there or else you will be torn apart and grind into powder".
”SAVANNAH”, a fictional film embedded with facts touches on the effects of the societal issue of FEMALE GENTIAL MUTILATION (FGM; a societal menace which is supposed to be an outlawed practice of the past but which some people will rather perish than completely erase the memory of.
The movie was filmed in the Northern Region (Tamale) and witnessed the introduction of great performance from both northern regional actors and seasonal actors from the capital.
The PR for the production house Mr.Seth Delali Dey has rubbished these claims by insisting they watch the movie before drawing their absurd conclusion. " This movie talks about culture, in anyway, it didn't misrepresent anybody's culture. I urge them to be patient, watch the movie before coming at us", he noted.
The ticket prices are 50gh for Accra premiere and 20gh for Tamale premiere on the 25th of December.
