The member of parliament for South Tongu constituency Hon Kobena Mensah Woyome visited flood victims in his constituency to sympathize with them.

He gave out some items and promised to call on the government to support the victims. Below is a statement from the constituency;

UPDATE ON FLOODS AND DISPLACEMENT OF OUR PEOPLE IN SOUTH TONGU CONSTITUENCY

The Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome, and his entourage visited some constituents on the 1st of October, 2023 who were affected by the floods and spillage from the Volta River Authority.

The communities he visited so far in the Adutor electoral area were; Bekpo, Tsaweme, Sonukpo, Agordome, and some parts of Agorwe.

In these communities, it is a sad story to tell that people's homes and bedrooms are been taken over by floods and some have become homeless.

It is also evident that some buildings in the area collapsed while others are in a dangerous state.

The road leading to Sonukpo and other adjoining communities got flooded to the knee level that is about 2 to 3 feet tall. The big question is how will the school children cross over to the school as they reopen in the few hours to come.

The Hon. MP upon seeing the situation, gave out some Wellington boots for them to be able to move to and from and he promised to draw the government's attention to the situation through DCE and NADMO for the supply of some items. Further, he indicated that he will call upon the ruling government and his representative in the District, Hon. Seth Agbi in consultation with the District Planning Unit to develop a long-term plan to mitigate the impacts of future flooding and spillage incidents. This could involve improved infrastructure, such as better drainage systems and flood defenses, as well as educating the community on preparedness and response measures.

He will in the next few days move to other affected communities within other electoral areas as this is becoming a major disaster in the constituency.

He advised those who were not affected to try as much as possible to accommodate the affected persons while the authorities monitor the situation and take action to assist them.

Thank you
