Rally behind John Mahama in 2024 to change the country’s fortunes - Precious Agbenya advises Ghanaian youth

In 2016, Ghana witnessed a wave of youthful energy that led to the defeat of President John Dramani Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) party. It is important to note that despite his loss, John Mahama, out of his love for Ghana, gracefully handed over power to the new government, headed by President Nana Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP). As the 2024 elections approach, it is crucial for us as young people to reflect on the current state of the economy under President Akufo-Addo and his NPP government.

One of the primary concerns surrounding President Akufo-Addo's economic management is the reckless borrowing that has taken place during his tenure. Reports indicate that his government has borrowed three to four times more than his predecessor, Mahama, resulting in a significant increase in Ghana's public debt. This mounting debt burden has contributed to persistent challenges such as inflation, unemployment, and fiscal deficits, which have adversely affected the lives of Ghanaians, especially the youth.

It is essential to evaluate the achievements of former President Mahama to understand the potential benefits of change. During his presidency, Mahama's administration implemented initiatives that positively impacted the economy. Notable achievements include infrastructural development, job creation, and social interventions. Mahama's responsible borrowing approach ensured that funds were directed towards projects that fostered sustainable economic growth. His track record suggests that he possesses the vision and competence to address Ghana's economic challenges effectively.

The youth of Ghana have demonstrated their power to effect change in the past. Just as they rallied to oust Mahama in 2016, they now have an opportunity to channel their energy towards bringing about positive change in the 2024 elections. It is crucial for young people to critically assess the economic management of the current administration and consider the potential benefits of a new leadership under Mahama who is the only candidate that presents, has presented and is presenting a clear vision for Ghana's future.

The importance of making an informed decision cannot be overstated. Research and gather information about the candidates' economic policies, their plans for job creation, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth. Engage in discussions with Taxi drivers, market women, Abossey Okine spare part dealers and you wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the adverse effects of the current government isn’t only affecting you and your household but everyone in this country. Id urge you as a young person to use social media platforms to educate and mobilize fellow youth, encouraging them to participate in the electoral process, starting from today.

Ghana's economic management under President Akufo-Addo has faced criticism, with concerns over reckless borrowing and escalating economic challenges. As young people, it is our responsibility to critically analyze the current administration's economic performance and consider the potential of alternative leadership. Drawing from the energy and passion demonstrated in the past, we can mobilize for change in the 2024 elections. Let us use our collective voice, informed decisions, and active participation to contribute to a prosperous future for Ghana nu by rallying behind John Dramani Mahama, the only viable option with a vision.
