Man Arrested For Stealing Burial Crosses At Graveyard

Mapeto Kanyama, a 42-year-old man, has been arrested by police in Mchinji on suspicion that he stole 22 gravestones from a graveyard in the area.
Kanyama is thought to have taken the gravestones from the graveyard at the edge of the district in Robert 1 village.
Limbani Mpinganjira, a spokesperson for the Mchinji police, said that the police got a tip that the suspect was asking scrap metal dealers to sell them the items.
Mpinganjira also said that the police have asked the dead people's families to help them find the stolen crosses.
Kanyama will soon have to go to court to answer for trespassing in a graveyard.
The suspect is from Kanyama village, which is in the Traditional Authority (T/A) Zulu area in the Mchinji. district.
