The driver, who wished to remain anonymous, said about five police officers stopped his car and told him he was under arrest for loading in an illegal area.

"I was picking up people from Coast and taking them to Takoradi. When I got to Takoradi at about 8.30pm on Friday, a police car with about five officers stopped me. They took all my passengers out of the car and told me I was under arrest and would be taken to the office to be processed in court. I agreed," he told Connect FM's Omanbapa morning show team.

He also says the police stopped him on the way and told him he had to pay them GH150 before they would let him go.

"As we were going to the police station, they stopped and told me that if they took me there, I would have to pay GH500 and my car would be locked until Monday. Then they told me to pay GH150 and I begged them to be kind. They said I wasn't serious and that I could only leave if I paid GH100. So I gave them the GH100 and they let me go back to work," he said.

The driver said he later found out that one of the policemen who got into his car had left his gun on the front seat.

"I couldn't work anymore because they took all the money I had earned for the day. When I got home, I saw that the officer had left his gun in the car. I couldn't work for a while because of the gun in my car," he said.

On the other side it says: (CZ805 BREN - made in Czech Republic).

The driver handed over the gun to the Western Regional Police Command for further investigation.
