Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, running companion to former President John Dramani Mahama in the 2020 general elections, has praised the work of the late President John Evans Atta Mills prior to his passing.

She stated that Professor Mills improved education, constructed infrastructure including markets and roads, and exhibited exemplary leadership.

Thursday, July 27, she delivered these remarks at the Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture in Accra.

In his address, the former Minister of Education indicated that Vice President John Dramani Mahama strongly supported Professor Mills' ability to fulfil his mandate.

She mocked the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) by referencing the recent Assin North by-election, in which the NPP candidate was defeated by the NDC.

"A word to the wise is in Assin North," she declared.

At an earlier ceremony commemorating the eleventh anniversary of Professor Mills' death in Accra on Tuesday, July 24, 2023, Mr. Mahama stated, "He was not one to create power at all costs and manipulate state agencies to carry out his political will.

"The Electoral Commission (EC) was genuinely independent, and the judiciary did not fear offending the president with its verdicts.

He did not weaponize justice, in contrast to the current situation. I am one of his many disciples who have gone on to achieve success in our respective disciplines, as he was a great talent athlete.Jennifer N

"He held our social and moral values in the highest regard, so it is not surprising that he abhorred LGBTQ."

Mr. Mahama served as Prof. Mills' Vice President from 2009 until Prof. Mills' death on July 24, 2012.
