Ablakwa Used Hos Position As Deputy Info Minister To Collect Debts For Isofoton So What Wrong Is He Accusing Gabby Of? Chairman Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party has stated that Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa once used his position as deputy minister of information to collect illicit debts for clients, despite not being a lawyer.

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has criticised Ablakwa for picking up Gabby Otchere-Darko and making unfounded accusations against him that he is involved in a transaction that will cost the country astronomical sums of money estimated at GH187,356,969.55.

The NPP Chairman, also known as Chairman Wontumi, argued that even if Gabby Otchere-Darko worked as a lawyer to claim that amount, there is nothing wrong with it compared to a deputy minister who attempted to collect illicit funds for Isofoton SA using illegal means despite not being a lawyer.

Former Attorney-General Martin Amidu once accused Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of calling him and imploring for the Spanish company Isofoton SA to be paid the money they claimed to be owed to them.

Mr. Amidu disclosed that he declined Ablakwa's request to the public.

In response to Martin Amidu's revelation at the time, Ablakwa stated that he had received a petition from the Spanish company expressing its displeasure with the NPP government's handling of their case following a breach of its contract with the Ministry of Agriculture under the Kufuor administration.

As far as he was concerned, there was nothing improper about contacting a colleague to discuss the petition he had received.

The deputy minister stated that he believed the best course of action under the circumstances was to contact Mr Amidu, who was the Attorney General at the time, as the petitioning issue did not fall under the purview of his ministry.
